The Discovery Flight leaves from Les Colimaçons, 800 m above Saint-Leu. It is the entry package at Air Lagon, the one most passengers choose when they have never flown.
The flight
Fifteen to twenty minutes in the air, not counting preparation and transfer. You cross the sugar cane fields and the Mascarin botanical gardens, then glide out towards the lagoon of Saint-Leu. Over the water you can pick out the reef and, often, the turtles. Take-off asks for a few running steps, never a jump. The state-certified instructor keeps the controls from start to finish; he can hand them to you for a moment or two if you fancy it.
Who it is for
No experience is needed. The flight is open from age 4, from 20 to 120 kg. Children fly tandem with an instructor, exactly as adults do. It is a good choice for a first time as a family, or to taste paragliding without giving up the whole morning.
Good to know
We meet near Kélonia, at the northern entrance to Saint-Leu, fifteen minutes before the agreed time; the shuttle climbs to the take-off from there. Allow €90 per person. The HD photo and video option puts a GoPro on board for the whole flight, for €20. If the weather forces a change of date, postponement is free.
